Artist's Comments

Another practice face. Once again the wisdom of working from large to small proves itself. Here I've begun to indulge in a little detailed sculpting around the nose and mouth. Lots of flaws, details neglected. In many ways I'm probably doing things the hard way because my method is more tedious than it should be. Much of the detailed modelling of the mouth vanished. That's probably repairable by use of the crease feature.

There are many ways to make a face though, you gotta find one that you find less tidious

Yup, looks sorta like a skull. Giving it eyeballs and coloring it something other than grey would help. For now those are details.

Yup, I think the answer might be the Bezier or NURBS forms that are also provided. I'm very familiar with those from working with GIMP. For now I'm avoiding them because I want to explore what can be done with other tools.

Yup. I read somewhere that the subdivision process is coming into favor because it's more efficient than splines. I'm not sure that it's as controllable, but time will tell. I've now found a way of using it that works pretty well for me.
